Hey my fellow tea lovers! This summer, I've been having fun blending up different teas. Hibiscus, rose hips, goji berries, ginger, and star anise have all gone into different types of tea blends. The search was on for a tea that was not only delicious, but also include lots of health benefits ranging from soothing digestion to lowering blood pressure. So, a few days ago I was looking at some of the ingredients I have on hand, and figured I throw them in the spice grinder.
Now y'all, I promise you I knew better than to grind up that star anise because the licorice scent and taste can be a bit overwhelming. But I did it anyway. Big mistake. By the time I finished grinding up everything, all I could smell was star anise. But I told myself it would taste better than it smelled. So I scooped a couple of teaspoon into my tea ball, and let it steep between 5-8 minutes. Normally, I leave the tea inside the ball and let it continue to steep while I sip. This time was no different.
Looks okay, but the flavor left a lot to be desired. The goji berries and rosehips were barely discernable, but there was a little burst of brightness from the citrus. The small amount of hibiscus had no effect on the taste. I thought there would be some tartness from the hibiscus, but guess who was wrong? 😫 All in all, it wasn't bad; just not very good either. So it's back to the spice grinder to find that one blend that's going to capture my taste buds from the first sip.
