What Tea Means to Me

Hand pouring hot tea into a cup

A soothing drink on a chilly autumn night, or cold winter morning. Tea has always been a source of comfort for me, a way to block out the worries and/or troubles of the day. It has the capacity to raise my mood at the first sip. It doesn’t matter what type of tea is in my cup, the moment that hot liquid hits my lips, it’s all good. If you can’t tell yet, hot tea is my very favorite. It doesn’t matter the temperature outside, the tea will be steaming.

One of my favorite pastimes is shopping for tea. And it doesn’t matter what kind of store I’m in, if there is some kind of foodie section, guaranteed there’s tea, and I’m leaving with a box or two. Looking at the different blends, deciding which ones to bring home with me, is one of the best feelings in the world. Some of the teas I’ve bought are cranberry and pomegranate, rose and lemon, and rooibos chai. I love the exotic mixes, as well as those that are more tart.

But we can’t forget the more mellow teas either. Chilly, moody nights call for chamomile or mint. Or a nice butterfly pea - an indigo tea perfect for a winter night. Lately, I’ve been making my own blends that serve a dual purpose ~ healing as well as comforting. Using herbs as teas for healing has become just as joyful as that first sip. There is something comforting about knowing that something we ingest has the power to improve not only our mood, but our health.

This is what tea means to me. What’s your favorite blend?
